Cupcakes and more!

So, when I left my blog earlier I had just taken the last cake out of the oven. The office is now closed and I have more goodies to share tomorrow with my taste testers! This batch is a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting covered in chocolate candy melts. With this batch I decided to try my hand at cupcakes and the few I did turned out pretty cute. So cute I think I will try more perhaps next weekend. The others I decided to try my hand at using the squeeze bottle to make more controlled designs other than just using a toothpick to fling candy melt on the pops. The squeeze bottle took some getting used to but all in all they turned out well. At least I can now say I know how thin the candy melts have to be to be successful in the squeeze bottle, the first time I tried this I didn't even get to make any designs as the candy melt dried in the bottle before making its way out.

Well the office is closed now so enjoy the pictures and all my taste testers get ready for some cake pops!!

Chickens & Tennessee Grasshoppers

It was a busy weekend in my "office" but very productive! This weekend I made chickens for the first time and I must say I think the turned our pretty darn cute! The chickens are butter yellow cake mix with vanilla frosting with a super white candy melt coating. They were not that difficult to decorate just had to do it in steps. I also made what I am calling Tennessee Grasshopper cake pops, oreo truffles dipped in mint candy melts. I have not tasted one of them yet but my husband has and said they are delicious, rich but oh so yummy! I even topped some with crushed up oreos. I bought some mini cookie cutters so I also tried them out with the chicken batch and while I didn't decorate them as I was just testing the cutters out themselves they didn't turn out too bad. Of course they would look better if I had decorated them but I will save that for next time perhaps. Hope my taste testers are ready!!

I have one more cake that just came out of the oven so stay tuned for yet another update from a busy weekend in my "office"!! :)

What a cake pop weekend!!

So, I got totally excited when I found out that there is a bakery store near my house! I had to get to it this weekend so I went on Saturday and I was in heaven!! I have been having some issues with the Wilton brand candy melts that are easily found at Michaels and had read on websites and other blogs to try the Merkens brand and you will never go back. So, this was first on my list upon walking into the bakery store and sure enough they had some and cheaper than I had been able to find other places locally. They also had the candy writer pens I needed so I can write and do other designs on the pops. Mainly I wanted these because I need to start practicing drawing baby feet to do some pops for a baby boy and baby girl for friends. After spending an hour there in amazement and trying not to buy the whole store I headed home and began the cake pop fun!

This weekend I made butter fudge cake and coated them with peanut butter candy melts and chocolate. I was really pleased with the way the Merkens candy melts turned out so I will likely continue to use them. I practiced the baby feet and I can do a right foot really well just need to practice that left one. :) I even tried to make some dice for an upcoming celebration for someone and they turned out really cute. I also tried my hand and drizzling the peanut butter on the chocolate ones to give a grown up different look to them. I think they all turned out pretty decent and my hubby says they are yummy so I hope all my taste testers are ready!!

Cake Pops!

Since getting the cake pop book written by Bakerella I have been hooked on making these yummy and oh so cute treats! I have been trying out all different flavors of cake from lemon, orange, butter pecan, and coconut just to name a few. So far my husband has not tried a cake pop he has not liked, his favorites so far are coconut and chocolate cake pop with peanut butter coating. Since I have been having so much fun making these I decided to start this blog and let anyone who would like to join me on my journey of cake pops and other sweet treats to do so. I hope to start sending cake pops to family and friends in the fall and then who knows where this might go! Here is a pictures of a birthday cake pop arrangement, the birthday girl is pregnant so we couldn't go with wine so what better than cake pops in a cute reusable pot!
